Master of Social Work
Students interested in pursuing a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree may choose between a 33-credit degree if they have completed a bachelor’s program in social work or a 60-credit degree if they completed a bachelor’s program in an unrelated field. The University of Oklahoma offers two MSW concentrations: a Community Practice specialization that concentrates on large groups, communities, and organizations or a Direct Practice specialization that focuses on small groups, families, and individuals. Both MSW degrees build on the generalist undergraduate training in social work and strive to hone students’ skills to work with a specific set of clients. Students must complete a 12-hour advanced practicum experience that allows for independent and supervised social work practice opportunities. Students may pursue the degree on a part-or full-time basis. The MSW degree often gives graduates a competitive advantage to proceed into managerial and administrative positions within the field.
