The School of Graduate Studies houses more than 120 academic programs which include master, specialist, doctoral, and certificate programs in addition to offering numerous combined degree programs. There is a focus on providing students with hands-on experiences, ensuring that they gain adequate knowledge of theories, preparing students to positively impact their field, and on research, as the University of North Dakota has a Carnegie Doctoral Research Institution designation. The school prides itself in offering small class sizes, reasonable tuition costs, easy access to faculty members, and an excellent curriculum.
Master of Social Work
This accredited social work degree program in North Dakota accepts both students who do and don’t possess a bachelor’s degree in social work. Thirty-six credit hours are required for students who have the bachelor’s degree. They must complete the advanced general concentration core which allows students to learn about topics such as human behavior and the social environment, research methods and analysis, tools for policy, and courses about practice with individuals and different groups. Students without a bachelor’s degree must complete a total of 60 credit hours which includes the advanced generalist concentration core in addition to 24 credit hours of foundational courses. Students are required to complete a research capstone, independent study, or thesis.
