Master’s in Social Work Degree Programs in Montana

A Master’s in Social Work (MSW) degree from an accredited social work degree program in Montana can greatly expand the options of anyone wanting to pursue a career in social work. Many social workers provide services at the undergraduate level, but a Master’s in Social Work is needed to provide clinical services. Once an MSW is obtained, the candidate will need to provide 3,000 hours of supervised psychotherapy to become a candidate to be a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) can not only provide case management services, but also conduct therapy sessions and clinical assessments.

Master of Social Work (MSW)

The Master of Social Work program at the University of Montana School of Social Work provides students with not only the academic background they need to succeed in this challenging field, but also with 450 hours of field experience through both years of the program. As Montana’s only accredited MSW program, the rural community-focused Master of Social Work program at UMT mainly focuses on Montana’s communities and offers students the opportunity to choose one of the following emphases: Interpersonal Practice, Community and Organizational Practice,or Social and Political Change. It is not necessary for students to choose an emphasis, however. The MSW program at University of Montana’s School of Social Work also houses The Center for Children, Families, and Workforce Development. This unique center provides students with specialized training, online tool kits, and online training modules to further assist children and families in need of services.

UMT’s Master of Social Work program was created to serve Montana’s communities, but helps students develop and utilize skills that can benefit any community. In addition to being one of the only accredited social work degree programs in Montana, the UMT program uses innovative programming and the latest evidence-based practices to meet the needs and challenges of today’s changing society.
