Master of Social Work

The Master of Social Work specializes in teaching students how to work between departments. As a social worker, graduates are there to ensure the client gets the best care available. Southern Connecticut State University

Social Work Department

The Social Work Department at the Southern Connecticut State University works to educate future social workers in undergraduate and graduate programs. They seek to provide the study, practice, and research needed to provide quality care in the private and public health sectors. To fully grasp the knowledge required in the social work field, students are offered many different field practice opportunities in New Haven and the surrounding areas.

Master of Social Work (MSW)

In the Social Work Department, the Master of Social Work (MSW), aims to teach students the required knowledge to work in advanced social work in clinical placements. They also prepare students for taking leadership roles in the social work profession.

In working towards the degree, students must complete 60 credit hours. In addition to the classroom courses, students are also required to spend 1,100 hours in field practice. This is a requirement for accredited social work degree programs in Connecticut. For students that meet certain requirements from a BSW, these drop to 39 credits and 700 additional hours of field work.

The Maser of Social Work (MSW) is available in two and three-year schedules. The flexible courses are available through weekends, evenings, and weekdays. There are also options to take some of the course work through on-line classrooms. To further accommodate students, the program is completed in either a two-year or three-year plan. It is recommended that working students take their MSW in a three-year plan to ease their workload.

School of Social Work

Graduate School

The Graduate School at the University of Saint Joseph offers graduate and doctorate level programs in a variety of fields. They offer on-line courses to fit into students’ busy lives. Master of Social Work
